The Watts Riots that started on August 11, 1965 happened because of a police pulling over Marquette Frye, an African-American motorist on parole for robbery because of reckless driving. An argument broke out between the two which resulted in a fight. False rumors about the police had hurt a pregnant woman which led to 6 days of robbery and arson. The Los Angeles police needed over 4,000 National Guard to help quell the riots which resulted in 34 deaths and over $40 million worth in property damage. This was one of the worst riots that was due to particularly on police racism.
