The fact that Perry is so unsure in the beginning about commiting the killings and how it continues to bother him after the fact shows that his character has some sort of empathy and guilt for what he and Dick have done. He is also aware that it was wrong and believes there is no way for them to get away with what they’ve done, but when asked about killing a man of color in his past, he shows that he is racist because he seems to dismiss the fact the killing a black man has the same consequences as killing a white man.
