The choice of language is conscious. It carries depending on the context, relationship, gender, culture as well as the status. The users switch accordingly.
In this case, a class context was used and in most contexts the language used was formal because of the status quo. The language used between students and people of a higher rank was official. Out of class interactions resulted to a change. Students often used slang and informal language. This revolved around code switching and code mixing. The use of Sheng was a common phenomenon with some even using their mother tongue. Even though language differs by gender there was harmony based on two specific categories as shown in table
