Softball started on thanksgiving day in chicago, illinois in 1887. A boating club was meating to hear the score of a the harvard vs yale football game. After the harvard football game the boating club heard that yale won and one of the members through a boxing glove and another hit the glove with a pole, and that’s how softball was born. After the man hit the glove the later known inventor of softball George hancock said “let’s play ball”. He then took the boxing glove and rolled it into a ball and tied a shoelace around it, AKA the first softball. The first bat was the broken handle of a broom stick. The first official women’s softball team was formed at a west chicago high school in 1985, the team did not have a coach
