In the fast world that we live in we need to make decisions in a split second notice. So many people think that being a quick decision maker is good, but they do not slow down and take in perspective both the consequences and the goal. For example Romeo and Juliet’s love story because both made hasty decisions it ended with their death. So think before acting.
Though the world does not depend on your daily decisions. The decisions made can still have consequences. For example students who have a test in a week and study usually do better, but for those who did not study do not end up with a good grade. Those who did study are motivated to get a good grade and understood the consequences of not studying and felt the urgency to study. This good grade on the test means good grades which will affect your future life.
When Romeo was in love with Juliet and was banished, Romeo not waiting for another day for the friar’s letter went to the Apocrathy and said “Come hither, man. I see that thou art poor. Hold, there is forty ducats. Let me have a dram of poison, such soon-speeding gear as will disperse itself through all the veins that the life-weary taker may fall dead, and that the trunk may be discharged of breath as violently as hasty powder fired doth hurry from the fatal cannon’s womb” (Shakespeare Act 5 Scene 1 Pg 3). Romeo not thinking through even though the friar told him before he was banished to wait for the letter, poisoned himself because he thought the Juliet was also dead. Later Juliet finds Romeo dead and kills herself, all because Romeo did not weigh the consequences before acting.
Even though Romeo made a mistake of not thinking other men and women have made good decisions when the world depended on it. For example Stanislav Petrov a worker monitoring the early warning signals went off and Petrov did not warn his seniors that missiles were incoming, but Petrov for a brief moment and weighed the consequences and the good. He eventually decided to not return fire. Eventually the radar showed that there were no missiles incoming and through the decision there is no World War III.
In the end learning to step back for a moment and to think can be important to make a big decision like Petrov which ended up good. So take time to think and evaluate your consequences, it may save your relationships, savings, or life.
