In 1777, during the American revolutionary war, the Articles of Confederation were written to specify the roles of the national government of the United States of America. The creation of the Articles of Confederation was a necessity for the United States as they were in fear of being overpowered by larger governments. In order to ensure their safety, and strengthen their economy the Articles of Confederation was created which bound the states together and enabled trading among each other and with other nations. Although the intentions behind creating the Articles of Confederation was good, it was not strong enough to withhold the country. Hence, in 1787, the U.S. Constitution was written to re-establish the powers of the national government.
