Electricity and drinking water sectors are essential to the development of Oman. The Public Authority for Electricity and Water (Diam) is responsible to provide the drinking water and the renewable energy services to all residents in the Sultanate.
PAEW is a government institution established by the Royal Decree No. 92 \ 2007 on 9 September 2007. It is thus the regulator of the water sector in Oman. By contrast, Diam has simple role in the electricity sector limited to policy overview. DIAM provides to its subscribers potable water by desalination of seawater to all areas of the Sultanate except for Sohar and Dhofar. In total, Diam transmits about 650,000 cubic meters of water per day, which serves more than 2, 4 million populations.
