Child labor has been an international concern. When children are engaged as laborers, they are deprived of normal childhood. This severely damages the future prospects of the children and of the nation as a country largely depends on its future generation.
The Indian laws says that any child below the age of 14 cannot be employed but in a highly populous developing country like India, a large number of people are below the poverty line .The children of these people have no choice but work to earn and support their family. In the midst of this endless cycle of poverty children are exploited and denied to enjoy their childhood, they are denied their basic fundamental right of education and their health deteriorates. In order to eliminate the social issue of child labor there should be strict enforcement of child labor laws by the Government, increase in employment opportunity, both skilled and unskilled, for adults which will increase family income, factory owners should be made aware of the severe consequences of Child labor and lastly every child should get the opportunity to go to school.
Instead of child labor, entire focus should be on child education. Illiterate and unskilled population cannot make a great nation. Hence, it is in the benefit and interest of all that no child should be engaged as labor both from legal point of view as well as the child’s future interest.
