Autonomy
Autonomy is an individual’s right of self determination and freedom of decision making. Most of the time that principle is difficult to apply when the patient care given. In autonomy, nurse can not force or coerce patient to do things. Before doing nursing intervention or medical intervention we have to get informed consent from our client. Patient choice and autonomy are considered key in palliative care. Also autonomy is about patient’s right to make their own decision. To do this effectively patient need to have enough information about his/her disease condition, medical treatment, surgical treatment and complication of his/her disease. Nurse have an ability to explain the patient condition, current treatments follow up care for the patient and get informed consent from the patient. Decisions are best made without undue influence, and the person making the decision should also be deemed capable of doing so.
